Pax Autocratica Prologue: Delisted — Is It Still Playable?

The Pax Autocratica Prologue is no longer available. Multiverse retired the free standalone demo from the Steam store on August 3, 2026 — one week before the Early Access launch on August 10. The store page is still up and its reviews remain visible, but the install button is gone. Here is what the Prologue was, why it disappeared, and what your options are now.

What the Prologue Was

Released on December 1, 2025 as a free, standalone Steam app — not a timed demo — the Prologue was the regime's free sample: the first sector, Elysia, with a boss encounter, dozens of roguelite buffs, the starting base, and early-game battles. Compared to the older 2025 demo, it added a large-scale battlefield to preview mid-to-late-game combat, a new control terminal for surveilling and assigning citizens, and a batch-build quality-of-life feature.

It did its job. The Prologue finished its run at Very Positive — 82% of 159 Steam reviews, with recent reviews trending even higher (88% over its final month). For a free slice of an unusual hybrid, that is a strong signal, and it held up right through the full game's launch.

Why Multiverse Retired It

The announcement came on July 22, 2026, alongside the price and launch-time reveal: with Early Access launching a week later, the small team would focus all future development, updates, and support entirely on the main version of Pax Autocratica. Keeping a separately built free fork patched every one to two weeks was a luxury a small studio could not afford.

Prologue vs. Early Access

If you played the Prologue and wonder what the paid game adds: the Prologue was explicitly a limited slice. Per its own store notes, deeper automation, mechs, and other late-game mechanics were not available in it, and the scale of both the base and the battles was smaller. The Early Access version contains the full colony-to-combat loop with many more soldier types, weapons, buildings, and cores — and it is the version now sitting at Very Positive, 91% across more than 1,100 Steam reviews.

Your Options Now

With the Prologue gone, there is currently no free way to try Pax Autocratica, and no successor demo has been announced. Your realistic options:

  • Buy Early Access — $29.99 on Steam or the Epic Games Store, with a 17% introductory discount ($24.89) through August 24, 2026. Steam's refund policy (under 2 hours played, within 14 days) is the closest thing to a trial that remains.
  • Watch first — every official trailer and gameplay video is rounded up on our trailer page, and the review roundup answers whether the Early Access build is worth buying.
  • Wishlist and wait — the 1.0 full release is planned to be bigger, and more expensive, after roughly two years of Early Access.
Already own the Prologue?

If you installed the Prologue before August 3, 2026, it stays in your Steam library — delisted games remain playable for existing owners. Just do not expect updates: support ended with the retirement announcement.

FAQ

Is the Pax Autocratica Prologue still available?

No. The Prologue was retired from the Steam store on August 3, 2026, one week before the Early Access launch. The store page is still visible, but it can no longer be installed.

Why was the Pax Autocratica Prologue removed?

Multiverse announced on July 22, 2026 that its small team would focus all future development, updates, and support entirely on the main Early Access version of the game.
